Gingerbread Spice Mix

My sister and I have been making gingerbread cookies together for the past three or four Christmases now, and this year was no different. If you're not a baker, packaging together some gingerbread spice mix to makes a quicker, healthier and more versatile gift for the holidays! Some suggestions on where to use it:
  • In baked goods, from cookies and cakes, to pies and muffins
  • Sprinkled on oatmeal, yogurt or applesauce
  • Steeped in tea or stirred into a latte
  • As a spice rub for chicken or pork
  • Sprinkled on top of roasted root vegetables
Ingredients
  • ¼ cup (60 mL) ground ginger
  • 3 Tbsp (45 mL) ground cinnamon
  • 1 Tbsp (15 mL) ground allspice
  • 1 Tbsp (15 mL) ground nutmeg
  • 1 Tbsp (15 mL) dry mustard
  • 1½ tsp (7 mL) ground cloves
  • 1½ tsp (7 mL) black pepper
Instructions
  1. Blend all ingredients together. (Or if you're fancy pants, you can layer it all pretty like sand art.) Store in an airtight container for up to one year.
