The Mindful Eating Workbook Virtual Book Club

Get a behind-the-scenes look at The Mindful Eating Workbook

Since writing The Mindful Eating Workbook over five years ago, I have helped hundreds of people work toward a more peaceful relationship with food and body, often using the concepts and activities shared in the book.

At the same time, my understanding of mindful eating has evolved so much in the past five years that many parts of the book feel outdated at best and cringe at worst.

In this five-week virtual book club, I hope to set the record straight on my thoughts on mindfulness and mindful eating, while helping you establish/grow your own mindful eating practice in a supportive community setting.

Join me Thursday, May 9, 16, 23, 30 and June 6 @ 5:30-6:30 PM MDT (7:30-8:30 PM EDT/4:30-5:30 PM PDT)

Topics Covered

  • Our first session will begin with introductions and a review of our community agreements. We will discuss some of the background of how the book came to be, before diving into the Introduction and the first half of Chapter 1. We will end our meeting with a mindful eating assessment and intention setting for the weeks ahead.

  • This session will begin with a Basic Body Scan before opening the floor to questions and comments about Chapter 1: The Mindful Path and Chapter 2: In Your Body. We will discuss attuning to our hunger and fullness cues, and close with a mindful eating exercise.

  • In this meeting, we will discuss Chapter 3: In Your Brain, which is all about the role of emotions and mental health in eating and nutrition. The activities in this chapter draw from popular counselling frameworks, such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and somatics.

  • Chapter 4: At the Table is where we start putting it all together as it guides you through what a mindful meal might look like, from acquiring the food to preparing it, to setting up your eating environment, then enjoying your meal and cleaning up. This session will be an opportunity for the community to support each other as we start to put our knowledge into practice.

  • Our last meeting will be about taking mindfulness and mindful eating beyond the table and into our everyday lives. We will wrap up our meeting (and book club!) with a mettā meditation, sending loving-kindness to all beings.
